Curbside pickup of solid waste and recyclables is
available throughout St. Johns County, including
City of St. Augustine, St. Augustine Beach.
Recyclable materials may also be brought to the
Tillman Ridge Landfill (fee charged). Yard waste,
construction and demolition debris must go to the
Processing Facility on International Golf Parkway

Homestead Exemption
To register call the Property Appraiser’s
office. Florida Homeowners are entitled to an
exemption for the first $25,000 of assessed value if
property is owned and occupied by December 31 of the
prior year.
Important - Qualification of exemption is limited
from January 1 – March 1 of the first year for which
the exemption is sought. For more information call

Both airports are about an equal distance from the
center of St. Augustine, approximately an hour and
fifteen to hour and a half drive time.

Vehicle Registration
Upon residing in St. Johns County, new residents
must register all motor vehicles. Florida
registration may be obtained through the office of
St. John’s County Courthouse. Hours are 8:30a.m. to
5:00p.m., Monday through Friday. For more

Driver’s License
New residents must obtain a Florida driver’s license
within 30 days of becoming a resident. This is
especially important to Homestead Exemption and to
enroll your children in public schools. Out of state
license holders must show 2 forms of identification,
one of which may be an out-of-state driver’s license
and then provide proof of Florida registration for
every vehicle owned by the applicant or complete a
non-owner's affidavit.
Fishing License
Once you become a resident, a fishing license is
required when fishing from a boat. When fishing from
shore it is only required to have a license if you
are an out of state resident. You can buy a license
at the local bait and tackle store, the local
Wal-Mart on US.1 South, or you can call Devil’s
